An European and Global Geopark is a territory that includes a particular geological heritage and a sustainable territorial development strategy supported by an European program to promote development.
It must have clearly defined boudaries and sufficient surface area for a real territorial economic development.
The Global Geoparks Network (GGN) pursues three important aims: to conserve the geological environment, to promote education on Earth Science and develop and sustain the local economi level, based also on geological heritage.
The Global Geoparks Network (GGN) under the UNESCO auspices has at the moment 100 territories and the involvement of 29 countries worldwide.
